QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS
Bagian I
Pertanyaan bisa dibagi (secara umum) kedalam 2 jenis, yaitu :
1. Yes-No Questions (Simple Questions)
Yaitu pertanyaan yang bisa dab biasa dijawab dengan Yes atau No.
Misalnya : Do you like ice cream ? yes, I do atau no, I don’t
2. Information Question
Yaitu pertanyaan – pertanyaan yang tidak bisa dijawab dengan YES atau No atau bisa disebut juga Question Word Questions, karena pada pertanyaan itu selalu ada Question Word nya (Where, What, Who, When, Why, How, Whom, Whose ).
Misal : - What time is it ? It is at 5 o’clock.
- Where do you live ? I live in Bogor
Pada jenis pertanyaan pertama suara secara normal naik di akhir Pertanyaan , dan pada tipe kedua suara jatuh (falls) pada akhir pertanyaan.
Contoh- contoh Yes-No Question beserta cara menjawabnya.
a. Are you fine ? Yes, I ‘m fine/No, I’m not so well.
b. Do you understand ? Yes, I do atau No, I don’t.
c. Can you speak Spanish ? Yes, I can atau No, I can’t.
d. Did you sleep well last night? yes, I did atau No, I didn’t.
e. atau dapat dijawab dengan Yes, I slept well last night
or No, I didn’t sleep well last night.

Pastikan bahwa Jenis – Jenis kata kerja bantu (Auxiliary Verb) telah diketahui dan dikuasai oleh siswa.
A. Baca dan jawab kalimat berikut dalam :
a. Affirmative dan b. Negative
1. Will he came tomorrow ? 8. Have you had your haircut ?
2. Is that the president over there? 9. Did you understand what he said?
3. What was your sister ? 10. Shall we go now ?
4. Are you ready ? 11. Do you come from Japan ?
5. Can you speak French ? 12. Do you like playing Chess ?
6. Are you fine ? 13. Have you been to Bali ?
7. Are you married ? 14. Is he your brother ?
Bagian II
A. Question Tags (Pertanyaan tumpangan)
Pertanyaan dan bentuk Statement + a Question Tags adalah sangat umum dalam bahasa Inggeris .
Misal :
He is sick, isn’t he ?
He goes to Los Angles every week, doesn’t he ?
It is warm, isn’t it ?
You don’t like dancing, do you ?
They want to Bali, didn’t they ?
Tata Aturan Question Tags
Ketika pernyataan dalam bentuk “Affirmative” Question tags-nya dalam bentuk Negative. Dan jika pernyataan (Statement) dalam bentuk “Negative” maka Question tag-nya dalam bentuk Affirmative.
Ada 2 Intonasi yang dapat digunakan :
1. Jika Suara (Voice) naik pada akhir pertanyaan, ini berarti anda sedang meminta informasi atau tidak yakin pada pernyataan anda.
- Suara (voice) jatuh pada akhir pertanyaan, ini berarti anda sedang membuat sebuah pernyataan, anda yakin akan diri anda sendiri bahwa hal itu benar tapi secara sopan meminta persetujuan orang lain.
Catatan :
A. Question tags untuk This/That adalah it dan Those/These adalah They.
Misal : - This is your book, isn’t it ?
- Those are your book, aren’t they ?
B. Question tags untuk there adalah tetap there.
Misal : There is a new teacher in our school, isn’t there?
C. Untuk question tags “am” dalam kalimat
I am lucky, am I ?
adalah contoh penggunaan “am” yang salah, seharusnya adalah
I am lucky, aren’t I ?
Jadi dalam hal ini am diganti dengan tag are.

Bacalah Pernyataan berikut ini, tambahkan Question tags dengan benar sesuai dengan Bentuk waktunya (Tenses).
1. They came easily
2. He is greek
