An Excursion to New York City.
Mr. And Mrs. Anderson are going to take a trip from California to New York city. They will leave California on Sunday. They are going to go by air. They will arrive at the airport at 2.00 Sunday afternoon. The plane will take off at 2.30. Therefore, they will arrive in New York that night. They are going to stay at hotel near Times Square.
They are going to get up early on Monday. They will eat breakfast and leave the hotel before 9.00 o’clock. They are going to walk to the metropolitan opera house and famous New York public library. Then they will also visit the tallest building in the world, the empire state building. They will see all of New York city from there. They will go to bed early that night. They are going to be very tired.
The next day, they are going to go to the beautiful United Nation building by Taxi. They also will se several large bridges along the east river. But on the way, they are going to walk to the New York University in the Bellevue medical center. From there they will fly to Washington square. Then they are going to visit the down town section of the New York University. On of the largest University in the world. And after words, they will return to their hotel and eat dinner with some old friends that evening.

Last week, I took my four-year old daughter. Nissa, to a children’s party. We traveled by train before. She sat near the windows and asked a lot of questions. Suddenly, a middle - age lady came into our compartment and sat opposite Nissa. ‘Hullo, little girl,’ she said. Nissa didn’t answer, but looked at her curiously. The lady took out her powder compact. She then began to make up her face.
‘Why are you doing that ?’ Nissa asked.
‘To make myself beautiful,’ the lady answered. She put away her compact and smiled kindly.
‘But you are still ugly,’ Nissa said

A Private Conversation
Last week I went to the theater, I had a very good seat, the play was very interesting, but I didn’t enjoy it. A young man and a young woman were sitting behind me. They were talking loudly. I got very angry, I couldn’t hear the actors. I turned round. I looked at the man and the woman angrily. They didn’t pay any attention, in the end, I couldn’t bear it. I turned around again. “ I cant hear a word !” I said angrily.

An Absent minded Mr. Newton
Mr. Newton wasn’t a genius, and he wasn’t a fool; he was absent minded. One day he left work at the usual time, six o’clock. He felt very cold out side, and he didn’t understand it. but of course ! he didn’t have his coat---- it was in the office. He went back to his office and got his coat. On the way home he went to the club. He usually saw his friends there on Tuesday. That day he didn’t meet them. They weren’t there. Then he remembered: it wasn’t Tuesday; it was Wednesday!
Mr. Newton arrived home at eight o’clock, and his family wasn’t home ! he waited, and he worried about them. he didn’t eat. He wasn’t hungry. Mr. Newton called a friend and told him, “ my family isn’t home.” Then he remembered: “ the children play tennis on Wednesday, and their mother takes them on the park. Today isn’t Tuesday, it is Wednesday.
Mr. Newton wasn’t worried then; he was hungry; he ate some bread, soup, meat, and potatoes, and he drank some milk. After supper he felt asleep. Later, Mr. Newton heard thieves enter the house. They didn’t make much noise, and they didn’t turn on the light. Mr. Newton was very afraid, and he didn’t move. He took a chair in his hand. He stood up slowly. He lifted the chair in the air, and then he heard:
“ Father ! what are you doing ?”
now he remembered. It wasn’t thieves. It was his family

A COLD WELCOME
On Wednesday evening, we went to the Town Hall. It was the last day of the year and a large crowd of people had d did not move. We waited and waited, but nothing happened. Suddenly someone shouted, “ It’s two minutes past twelve ! the clock has stopped ! I looked at my watch. It was true. The big clock refused to welcome the New year. At the moment, every gathered under the Town Hall clock. It would strike twelve in twenty minutes’ time. Fifteen minutes passed and then at five to twelve, the clock stopped. I have just received a letter from my brother,Tim. He is in Australia. He has been there for six months. Tim is an engineer. He is working for a big firm and has already visited a great number of different places in Australia. He has just bought an Australian car and has gone to Alice Spring, a small town in the center of Australia. He will soon visit Darwin. TOO LATE
The plane was late and the detectives were waiting at the air port all morning. They were expecting a valuable parcel of diamonds from South Africa. A few hours earlier, someone had told the police that thieves would try to steal the diamonds. When the plane arrived, some of the detectives were waiting in side the main building while other were waiting on the airfield. Two men took the parcel off the plane and carried to the Customs House. ONE MAN ON A BOAT
Fishing is my favorite sport. I often fish for hours without catching anything, but this doesn’t worry me. Some fishermen are unlucky. Instead of catching fish, they catch old boots and rubbish. I am even lest lucky. I never catch anything not even old boots. After having spent the whole morning on the river, I always go home with an empty bag. “ you must give up fishing !’ my friends say. It’s waste of time.’ But they don’t realize one important thing. I am not really interested in fishing. MARK TWAIN AND THE SERVANT
Mark Twain was so famaus in his day that there there are many stories now connected with his name. Some of these stories may be true and some may be false, but they are all interesting.
Once Mark Twain wanted to borrow a certain book from a friend. The friend told that he never permitted anyone to take books from his library. If Twain wanted to use the book, he must use it in his friend’s library. He could not take it home with him.
A few days later, the same friend wanted to borrow Mark Twiain’s Lawn mower in order to cut his grass. Mark Twain then told him that that he never permitted anyone to take his lawn mower from his room. If the friend wanted to use the lawn mower, he must it on Mark Twain’s own grass.
Another story is the following: One morning, when Mark Twain was dressing, he found that his shoes were covered with mud. He called his servant to him and said : “ My shoes are covered with mud, Why did not you clean last night ?”
I thought it was useless to clean them in such bad weather,” the servant said : “ They will only get dirty again in a short time.”
“Later that day, when the came for the dinner, there was no food for his dinner, he went to Twain and asked him the reason for this.
“ I thought it was useless for you to eat, “ Said Twain,”Because you will only get hungry in a short time.”
